Detroit-area creators in the community she built before launching Creator Weekend.

Amber M. Lewis knew Detroit's creative talent was as strong as anywhere, and she also knew it kept getting left out of the national creator economy conversation. She had seen the city from the inside as its digital and social media director, and in 2019 she was named a Bumble brand ambassador after organizing a sold-out networking event for local female creatives.

So she built the infrastructure herself. Lewis founded the creative agency Social N The City and grew it into a community of more than 700 Detroit-area creators, then launched Detroit Creator Weekend, a multi-day summit running September 24 through 27 at Bamboo Detroit's newly renovated Jefferson Hub in Midtown, timed inside the citywide Month of Design.

The point is not more content. Lewis designed the weekend to move creators past chasing followings and toward the business side, the brand deals, the agencies, the platforms, and the systems that turn influence into a career that lasts. She is trying to make Detroit a real seat at a table worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

"Detroit's talent was never the problem. The infrastructure around it was, so she built it."

It would have been easy to wait for a national brand or platform to notice Detroit. Lewis did not wait. She built the room, the network, and the event her city's creators needed, which is exactly how a scene stops being overlooked and starts being taken seriously.

This is the ecosystem work ANF loves to spotlight. Do not wait for the industry to discover your city. Build the table and pull your people up to it.

The talent was already here. She built the platform to prove it.
