200

Social entrepreneurs, artists, educators, funders and practitioners in one Corktown room, Oct. 8 to 10.

Detroit loves a builder. It talks a lot less about what building costs the person doing it. Hearth Summit Detroit, running Oct. 8 to 10 at Kintsugi Village on 14th Street, puts that cost on the agenda.

The summit is organized by Be Well Beautiful People and curated by Demarra West. It brings roughly 200 people together: social entrepreneurs, educators, artists, funders, and mental health and holistic practitioners. The focus is individual, collective and ecological wellbeing, with art as a shared language for healing and connection.

Tickets run $499 to $999, and the organizers say up to full scholarships are available for anyone in need. That detail matters. A wellbeing room only helps the builders who can actually get into it.

"A founder who cannot rest is not a long-term plan."

For young Detroit founders and creatives, the pressure to prove it before you are ready is real, and so is the quiet burnout that follows. Putting funders and practitioners in the same room as the people doing the work is a smart structural move.

The ANF Take: Detroit is great at launching. The test is whether it can keep its builders healthy enough to still be building in ten years. Ask who gets the scholarships, and ask what funders do after the summit ends.
