Rocket legacy gift to Detroit digital inclusion and youth
The Rocket Community Fund just committed a $4.5 million legacy gift to Detroit, and most of it is about one thing: access. As the Rocket Classic enters its final year, the fund is turning eight years of a golf tournament into infrastructure that outlasts it.
The larger share, $3.5 million, goes toward affordable high-speed internet in public housing communities across the city. Through a partnership with DigitalC and the Detroit Housing Commission, up to 2,400 households and 6,000 residents will get reliable service, the kind that traditional providers skipped for years. It builds on a 2025 pilot that connected 450 families.

We say it constantly around here: the talent is already in Detroit. What has not always been here is the connection. School, work, healthcare, a job application, a first business, all of it now runs through a signal that thousands of households simply did not have. Wiring 6,000 people in is not charity. It is the baseline the rest of the near future gets built on.
The other $1 million starts the Own the Dream Youth Scholarship Fund, an endowed source of support for graduating Detroit students heading to college and beyond. The funds, managed by the Children's Foundation of Michigan, back participants of College, Career and Beyond and First Tee of Greater Detroit.
Since 2019, the Rocket Classic has put more than $10 million into Detroit nonprofits. This gift is the closing move, and it is a pointed one: connect the households that got left offline, then fund the students who will use that connection to build something.
