Of creators now earn between $10,000 and $100,000 a year
For years the creator economy had only two stories: a handful of superstars pulling in millions, and everyone else making almost nothing. A new 2026 report from the Influencer Marketing Factory, based on a survey of 1,000 US creators, shows a third group taking shape in the middle. 45.6% of creators now earn between 10,000 and 100,000 dollars a year, a real middle class emerging where there used to be a gap.
The report is honest about the top and bottom too. Only about 5.7% clear six figures and effectively run as businesses, while the bottom half still earns under 15,000 dollars, where instability is real and burnout runs past 60%. The middle is the story, because it's where this either becomes a sustainable career or stays a winner-take-most lottery.
And the signs point toward sustainable. More than half of creators, 51.5%, grew their earnings year over year. The share focused on saving money jumped from 32% to 76% in a single year. Nearly 45% now say they want stability and long-term brand relationships over one-off viral campaigns. This is an industry starting to think like a career, not a jackpot.
"It was always framed as viral or nothing. Now there's a living to be made in the middle."
A middle class changes the math for a young creator. You no longer have to bet everything on going viral or landing one mega deal. A steady income built on skill, consistency, and an audience that shows up is now a realistic target, and a more stable foundation than fame ever was.
It also lines up with how creators are actually making money now. Passive streams like affiliate links, digital products, merchandise, and subscriptions make up more than 20% of creator income. The smart play isn't the biggest possible audience anymore, it's a real, trusting community you can build a business around. Depth is starting to beat reach.
This is a more honest goal for the builders we cover. Not a lottery ticket, a craft. Show up, get good, build a community that believes you, and make a living from it. The creator middle class is proof that path is real.
You don't have to go viral to win. You have to build something people keep coming back to.
