Laurice Houston, pronounced luh REESE, builds slow and builds to last. Her body care brand, Care En Color, began as a written down vision in 2021, paused for the realities of life and school, and returned in 2026 fully rebranded and ready for its next chapter.
Who are you, and what are you building?
"My name is Laurice, pronounced luh REESE. I am currently growing a body care brand called Care En Color."
What was the moment you decided to go for it?
"I started this brand in 2021 after God gave me a vision. I wrote the vision down and made it plain, then officially launched the brand in May of that year. It took a lot of planning and execution to bring it to life. From late 2022 through 2025, I took a major step back to focus on school, because life and business can become overwhelming. But that break didn't last forever. It led to a complete rebrand and the relaunch of Care En Color, featuring an amazing new website, in June 2026. This new chapter is all about staying committed, networking, and continuing to grow in every aspect."

What does Detroit mean to your work?
"Metro Detroit, more specifically the city of Detroit, is home. This is the place that has shaped my hustle and grind, and it's what motivates me to keep pushing, whether it's in my business, at work, or in my community. Detroit has helped me build my confidence, meet incredible people, especially those who are just like me, and realize there's nothing to be afraid of because we've all started somewhere. Ultimately, it has helped me grow into the person I am today."
What do people your age get wrong about you?
"One thing people my age often get wrong about me is that they think I take life too seriously. But the truth is, if I want something, I'm going to work hard to achieve it. I'm focused, determined, and I don't play when it comes to reaching my goals."
